Be a Recognized Model of Volunteer Excellence

Provide outstanding volunteer service to LHAAMC

Founded in 1944 as a way for community members to give back to the hospital, LHAAMC's adult volunteering service — LHAAMC Auxiliary — has gone from being the "Pink Ladies" to the "Blue Crew" and is an integral part of the organization's mission to provide patient-centered high-quality health care services to the community.

Auxiliary members serve in more than 30 different services on the main campus and in the many satellite centers spread around the community. Volunteers at AAMC are asked to give one shift per week on a regular day and time. Accommodation is made for vacation or other leave. Shifts are typically 9 am–12:30 pm or 12:30–4 pm. There are opportunities for evening and weekend volunteer work. Volunteer assignments are based on the volunteer's interest and schedule as well as the hospital's needs.

To be an Auxiliary member, volunteers must:

  • Complete an application
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Undergo a background check
  • Volunteer for one three-hour shift per week for a year
  • Attend all required orientations and trainings
  • Comply with all required immunizations

Opportunities

There are many opportunities for volunteers to contribute their time and service. These include:

In addition to income generated from the two gift shops, the Auxiliary hosts special events throughout the year to raise additional funds.

Greeters work at information desks on campus. They help visitors find their way around the hospital and transport patients.

Volunteers assist family and friends of patients who are having same-day surgery. They make coffee, pass along messages from doctors, communicate concerns of the family to nurses, maintain a log of where family members can be reached and direct family to the patient's room after surgery.

Volunteers on the clinical floors can make a major contribution to overall patient care and satisfaction. In this role, you provide comfort to patients and families.

During any given shift, you may be responsible for restocking or fulfilling patient and family requests. In some areas you may have additional responsibilities, including delivering magazines, newspapers or flowers. Working as part of the nursing team, you will have an opportunity to enhance patients' quality of life. This program is ideal for volunteers considering a health profession.

Volunteer in one of Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center's retail stores and meet new people and have fun while supporting the work of the medical center's Auxiliary. Volunteers are vital to fundraising efforts that support the work of LHAAMC.

Some volunteers dedicate three hours a week, others dedicate 20. No matter the hours worked, all volunteers make a vital contribution toward the patient experience, as well as various programs and endeavors of LHAAMC.
