Magnet® Recognition
In 2019, Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) achieved our second Magnet® designation as a reflection of excellence inpatient and family-centered care, nursing professionalism and teamwork. Magnet recognition is awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®, which ensures that rigorous standards for nursing excellence are met, and excellent patient outcomes are achieved.
With this prestigious credential, AAMC joins the Magnet community—a select group of fewer than 10% of U.S. hospitals. So far, only nine other hospitals in Maryland and two in Washington, D.C. have achieved Magnet® recognition since the program’s inception in 1990.
Nursing Professional Practice Model
Developed by the nurses at LHAAMC, the nursing professional practice model guides the nursing strategic plan and identifies practice expectations for all nurses. The PPM illustrates how nurses practice, develop professionally, communicate, and collaborate to provide the best quality care for the patients, families and communities served by the organization.
The model illustrates the integration and alignment of LHAAMC’s organizational mission, vision and values with nursing practice. The central image of the model is a jewel-like lamp, a symbol that represents the historic town of Annapolis and is part of the Luminis Health logo. The lamp conjures the spirit of Florence Nightingale and, as hers did, serves as the beacon of light that the hospital represents to the community as it works to enhance the health of the people it serves.
