Katie O’Connell attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. After practicing as an Academic Hospitalist in Honolulu for two years, she returned to the mainland and joined the Adult Hospitalists at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center in 2011. She served as the Medical Director of the Hospitalist Group starting in 2015.
With the inception of our Internal Medicine Residency Program, Katie changed roles and is now serving as the Associate Program Director. She serves as the Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee and has an interest in assessments. Additionally, she is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine for The George Washington University of Medicine and Saba University School of Medicine, for which she serves as the LHAAMC Site Director for the Third Year Internal Medicine Clerkship. She remains active in hospital initiatives, including Readmissions Reduction and is serving as the Associate Chief of Medicine. One of her favorite roles is that of mentor for her Advisees.
In her spare time, Katie enjoys cycling, running, skiing, and cuddling with her Miniature Schnauzer, Maggie, who happens to be the official IM Residency Wellbeing Puppy.
