Dr. Caparrelli is an experienced cardiothoracic surgeon who joined Luminis Health in May 2024. Dr. Caparrelli has specific clinical interests in aortic diseases (such as aortic aneurysm and dissection) and heart valve disease. He has experience in both conventional open and endovascular approaches to the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Caparrelli received his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency and fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He joins Luminis Health from The New England Heart and Vascular Institute in New Hampshire and brings more than 20 years of experience to our team.
Board certified in general surgery, vascular surgery and thoracic surgery, Dr. Caparrelli has published in high-impact peer-reviewed journals on a range of topics and served as principal investigator and sub-investigator for clinical research programs exploring device and pharmaceutical safety and efficacy. Dr. Caparrelli has authored chapters for seven different textbooks and manuals, including The Johns Hopkins Manual of Cardiac Surgical Care. He has presented abstracts and posters at leading nationwide conferences such as the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Heart Association, and the American Associations for Thoracic Surgery and lectured regularly both nationally and internationally. He has also done pioneering work using cryoanalgesia for postoperative pain and has performed over 300 "painless" heart surgeries.
He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of multiple professional associations including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Society of Vascular Surgery, Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, and the International Society of Endovascular Specialists.
