Dr. Speciale's interest lies in full spectrum care of the spine and its disorders. After completing a fellowship in spine surgery at Duke University in Durham, NC, he joined the Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center in September of 2000. Since his arrival, he has performed over 3000 spine operations. He was Board Certified in July 2002 and recertified in 2011 by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. In 2011 he was named the medical director of the Anne Arundel Medical Center Spine Program. An undergraduate of the University of California at Los Angeles, Dr. Speciale graduated with honors from the George Washington University School of Medicine, Washington, DC in 1994. He went on to complete a five year orthopaedic surgery residency at GW before his fellowship year at Duke. Dr. Speciale strives to remain on the cutting edge of the rapidly developing field of spine surgery. He maintains an association with many professional societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society. He has a special interest in spinal deformity surgery and has trained with some of the foremost spine surgeons in the world. In addition to traditional spine surgery techniques, he performs minimally invasive spine surgery including lateral access lumbar fusion surgery, disc replacement surgery, dynamic stabilization and balloon kyphoplasty. He is currently involved in various research projects and teaching endeavors. Dr. Speciale has been on the staff at Anne Arundel Medical Center since September 2000. He lives in Annapolis with his wife and 3 children.
