You can help avoid cervical cancer with regular screenings. Two screening tests can help prevent cervical cancer or find it early: Pap test, which is an annual screening test that shows cell changes on the cervix. Human papillomavirus (HPV) test, which looks for HPV that causes cell changes. The best way to prevent cervical cancer is to have the HPV vaccine as an adolescent. Centers for Diseases Control guidance recommends HPV vaccination for everyone up to age 26. Some older adults can benefit from vaccination, too. Talk to your provider about whether the HPV vaccine is right for you.
